Fried Green Tomato for Two

Ingredients

The Sauce

  • 1/4
    Cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/4
    Cup Ketchup
  • 1
    Green Tomato
    Wash
  • 1
    Green Tomato
    Slice
  • 1
    Cup Flour
  • 1
    TBSP Cajun Seasoning (optional)
  • 1/2
    Cup Milk
  • 1
    Egg
  • 1/3
    Cup Fine White Corn Meal
  • 1/2
    Cup Fine White Breadcrumbs
  • 1/4
    Cup Frying Oil of your Choice

Instructions

Get a Green Tomato and Wash It!1 Green Tomato (Wash)

Once Washed Slice it Up (about a 1/4 in thick slices)1 Green Tomato (Slice)

Get Out 3 Bowls

Bowl 1: Add 1 Cup Flour (If you like it spicy add 1 TBSP Cajun Spice Seasoning)

Bowl 2: 1/2 Cup Milk & 1 Egg (I make mine dairy free by using Coconut Milk)

Bowl 3: 1/3 Cup Fine White Cornmeal & 1/2 Cup Fine Dry Bread Crumbs

Whisk the milk & egg (make sure other bowl are well combined if needed)

Heat 1/4 cup oil in a skillet on Medium Heat (I’ll be using olive oil, add more oil as needed)

Dip Tomatoes in each bowl (following 1-2-3 system we set up earlier)

Fry as many coated tomatoes as will fit in the frying pan (will most likely need to do in a couple batches)Cooking for 3-5 min each side until browned

Finally set on plate covered in paper towels. Once they’ve cooled down a bit dig in with your favorite hot sauce or dip! (I use an equal parts mayo/ketchup dip)
