Simple Korean BBQ at Home

Shaun Seo

Ingredients

  • Rice
  • Perilla leaves
  • Dashida wrap
  • Pork belly
  • Ssamjang

Instructions

1
Cook Rice. We usually use our rice cooker but today we wanted to try something new.
2
Perilla leaves are a must at our house. We tried Dashida wrap bought from Hmart for the first time. My wife liked it. It was OK for me. Definitely optional.
3
Can you call it Korean BBQ without Pork belly? Sometimes we’d also have beef (we like skirt steak) but pork belly never misses an appearance.
4
Time to wrap it with some Ssamjang! This is how you can enjoy a simple version of K-BBQ at home.

Ingredients

  • Perilla leaves
  • 1
    Firm Tofu
  • 1/2
    can Spam
  • 1
    tbsp Butter
  • 1/2
    bowl Kimchi
    cut
  • 1
    tbsp Sugar
  • 1
    tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1
    Egg
    fried

Instructions

1
Wash Perilla leaves. Perilla leaves are optional but recommended!
2
Boil 1 Firm Tofu and slice it
3
Protein is optional. We used Korean 1/2 can Spam because that’s what we had at home at the time but you can try other proteins. E.g. Pork belly or bulgogi.
4
Stir fry 1/2 bowl Kimchi (cut). The trick is to add 1 tbsp Sugar and 1 tbsp Butter. Finish with 1 tbsp Sesame oil.
5
Plate it the way you want. Usually it’s tofu surrounding kimchi in the middle, but there’s no one right way to do this! Optionally add 1 Egg (fried)
6
Wrap it in perilla leaves and enjoy!

Plating time! Place the noodle in the bowl. Mix dasi broth with the sauce and add some ice cubes to make it extra cool.
